VENMAR ADVANCED VENTILATION SYSTEM (AVS):

HRV Heat Recovery Ventilator technology

AVS Solo

SOLO AVS - How Does It Work?

The AVS Solo is a true HRV Heat Recovery Ventilator system. It is a balanced mechanical system which changes the air in your home over a three hour period. It provides fresh filtered air into your home and extracts upto 80% of the heat and cooling in the outgoing air stream, which is returned to the incoming air stream. It maximises energy efficiency in your home and operates on average on less than a 100 watts per hour.

In winter, a fan within the unit draws cool outdoor air into the home through a series of ducts. This incoming air is filtered to remove dust and pollen.

As air is drawn into the home, another fan within the unit extracts the warm, moist, polluted air from the home at the same rate (1/3 of an air change per hour). This air is drawn out of the kitchen, bathrooms and/or laundry, typically. These areas are seen as the highest moisture and pollution points in the home. The entire home is refreshed every 3 hours, approximately, without compromising the active heating and/or cooling of the home.

The two air streams, cold, incoming outdoor air and extracted warm indoor air, pass through a device known as a 'Heat Exchanger" (diamond-shaped area in photograph) but do not mix. The polluted, warm, moist air leaving the home gives up a proportion (approximately 70%) of it's heat to the incoming cool, fresh air. This pre-heating of the incoming fresh air conserves energy by significantly reducing the amount of heat energy which would normally be required to bring incoming cold, fresh air up to the desired room temperature.

Note: A similar but opposite process occurs in summer with the heat from the incoming air being transferred to the outgoing cooler airstream. This transfer therefore pre-cools the incoming air.

Indoor dust levels are reduced with dust suspended in the indoor airstream being removed before it can settle with the airstream constantly moving towards the exhaust points in the home where it is extracted to the outdoors. This feature, combined with the filtering of incoming fresh air, reduces the need to dust and provides relief to dust-sensitive individuals in the household.

The system is controlled through a centrally-positioned wall-mounted 'Humidistat' (moisture-sensitive control) which allows the homeowner to choose between various modes to achieve optimum indoor air quality. These modes include high and low speed air exchange, high and low speed air recirculation and filtration and 2 timer modes.(eg. 20 mins.air exchange and 40 mins. off).

The ventilation system should be positioned in an easily accessible location for maintenance purposes (eg. laundry, attached garage). The standard dust and pollen filters require inspection and cleaning at 3 month intervals approximately. The 'Heat Exchanger' and interior of the unit should be inspected and cleaned once a year.

Extra filtration is available and can be added to the unit at any time.
