"Illness linked to indoor mould and dampness."

" Scientific evidence links mould and other factors related to damp conditions in homes and buildings to asthma symptoms in some people with the chronic disorder, as well as to coughing, wheezing, and upper respiratory tract symptoms in otherwise healthy people, says a new report published by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. USA." *

Moisture buildup can occur within the building fabric (ie in walls, floors, ceilings, roof spaces, cellars) due to rainwater penetration, leaking plumbing and condensation, as well as in wet areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, laundries, spas, and pool rooms. It may also occur from events such as floods.

Water vapour also contributes to the problem and is generated by activities such as showers, cooking, washing, dryer etc.

The report also found that "Excessive dampness influences whether mould as well as bacteria, dust mites, and other such agents are present and thrive indoors."
